TOURIST TAX | BED TAX
From September 12, Catania
(Sicily) will enforce a new tourist tax for visitors staying overnight.
The decision was taken few weeks ago, when the new tax regulations were
approved, after the Italian Government passed the national law on "Regulations
on the subject of municipal federalism", according to which local authorities
are entitled to enforce tourist taxes in order to finance tourism, maintenance
of cultural heritage sites and environment, as well as public services. The tax,
which will not be charged on residents, will be levied on the first five
consecutive nights of any overnight stay.
The Tourist Tax (or Bed Tax) must be paid from each guest which will book a room
in any hotel, resort based on the property rating. The tax must be paid
directly at hotel, during the check out on the final invoice.
