Siracusa

Siracusa is a very charming city located in the southeastern coast of Sicily. Founded by Corinthians in 734 BC, it became a very powerful city-state and the most important city of Magna Grecia.

The Neapolis Archaeological Park belongs to the Unesco Heritage and is home to well preserved ruins, such as: the Greek Theatre, the Roman Amphitheatre and the Paradise Quarry.

Ortigia island, the heart of Siracusa, was a center of Greek, Byzantine and Judaic civilization. These three cultures left an imprint on this place still visible today; just to give one example, the Byzantine Miqwe (Jewish baths), that lies under the Hotel alla Giudecca.

Stroll along the dedalus of Ortigia’s gorgeus medieval streets, and discover the numerous highlights where myth and legend meet art and history, such as the majestic Cathedral and the renowned Spring of Arethusa.

Siracusa can be considered a real fresco of Mediterranean history and, for a traveller visiting Sicily, is definitely a crucial stop-over.
