Erice

Erice is a gorgeous medieval town that, with its 750 meters of elevation, offers a breathtaking view of Trapani, San Vito lo Capo and Egadi islands. Founded by Elymians, Erice was conceived as an important religious site dedicated to the worship of Venus. Due to its position, it looks like a fortress.

Among the numerous highlights, the two castles are worth to mention: Pepoli Castle is heritage of Arabs (now a hotel); Venus Castle is heritage of Normans, but it was built on ruins of the ancient temple associated with the goddess Venus.

Erice today houses a renowned annual congress dedicated to Astronomy, as well as others international scientific conferences.

Stroll around its typical old-stone narrow streets and, from time to time, take a break to taste the typical marzipan candies, the delicious almond and pistachio pastries and other delicacies.

Certainly you’ll be captured by Erice’s timeless beauty.
